An Unsuitable Job For A Woman by P.D. James – Book Review

Cordelia Gray is a partner with Bernie Pryde at his private detective agency.  Upon Bernie’s death, he leaves the business to Cordelia.  It is not a thriving business and she is unsure whether potential clients will be willing to hire her because she is young and a woman but she enthusiastically accepts her first solo case.  She is hired by Mark Callender’s father to determine what caused Mark to commit suicide.

This is a relatively short book where the writer utilizes the regular murder mystery formula, i.e. Cordelia interviews everyone that Mark had contact with, looks through his personal items and his residence and from that evidence, draws the conclusion of what really happened to Mark.

I believe that the book was originally published in the early 1970’s and so while it is a bit dated, I still enjoyed reading it.
