Book Review – Consumed by J.R. Ward

Consumed

This is the first book in a new series by J.R. Ward (Firefighters #1).  Ann Ashburn is a firefighter that has the hots for fellow firefighter, Danny McGuire.  When Ann is seriously injured in an accident during a warehouse fire, she is no longer able to perform as a firefighter.  She takes on a new challenge and becomes a fire investigator.  The one-night stand between her Danny pre-Anne’s accident remains the only contact between them as Danny struggles with his guilt in regard to the part he played in Ann’s life-changing accident.  Before long, however, Ann finds similarities between several warehouse fires and Danny and Ann team up to discover the arsonist.

What I really like about J.R. Ward’s books is that you get what you expect – in this case, an interesting story about firefighters along with a bit of romance.  I also like that the romance is not over-the-top bodice ripping action for pages.  I’m more interested in the character development than the romps through the sheets.  I gave this book 3.5 stars out of five.
